What a service today, hope I can follow it up!

Wow, we had a fantastic service this morning at Leon BC.  Pastor Basil Hudson spoke on John 10:10 and taking the journey.  His main focus was about how we try too hard on trying to please others and not trying to please the one who really matters, our Heavenly Father.  I thought trying to be funny here and say our spouses, but some might not think that to be funny. [more...] Read the rest of this entry »

Pastor gives the OK!!

10 03 2009

Last sunday, I got the chance to talk to my senior pastor about the idea of turning one of the old Sunday school classrooms into the new youth room.  For as long as I have been working with the kids, we have been using the fellowship hall.  But, the room is too big and the kids start to wonder after a while.  So, he gave us the OK to start to renovate the downstairs into the new youth room.  I am so excited!! he only Ideas that I have is that there has to be couches and to paint one wass with chalkboard paint and let the kids go crazy!  Tell me what you think?

NYMC 09 Deeper Learning “Flip that youth group”

9 03 2009

This is a post that I had written during the NYMC, but due to the internet connection being down, I could not post.  So, here it is.  Enjoy!

I am right now in my session called “Flip the youth group” 10 ways to re-invent your youth group by Jeanne Mayo.  These are simple ways to use to reach and grow you ministry.  I have learned so mush over these couple of days.  Here is a couple that I have picked up:

1.       Find a couple of kids that you see promise in and invest your heart in.  Jesus did have the 12, but he had 3 that he invested more time in.  And have those kids pour it back into the other students.

2.       Big object lessons.  Use things that are out in our environment and parallel that into a lesson from the bible.  This will drive the point home!

3.       Create a family-style atmosphere.  The kids that we invest so much time in kids that come from broken homes or homes that the parents don’t care about their own kids.  Tell the kids that you care about them and that you love them.  It will make all the difference in the world.

I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to be able to be here @ NYMC with my wife.  I know that we have been transformed into better leaders and into a better couple who want to work with kids.  The one thing that I will take away from this whole conference is that this whole thing called youth ministry is nothing more than a big community of people who want to help.  All you have to do is ask.

All things good @ NYMC!!

We are having a blast here at NYMC in Columbus!  Last night, Kay Warren spoke to the crowd about surrendering to God.  WOW! What a speech.  I don’t think that there was a dry eye in the house.  I got the chance to meet Doug Fields, founder of Simply Youth Ministry.  Fantastic guy.  You meet someone you look up to in youth ministry and then you get the chance to meet them and you find out that they are just as normal as you.  Chrissy is doing a fantastic job out here, she is taking classes on “Marrried to a youth  pastor”.  Here are the pics I promised.  More to follow!

First day @ NYMC was awsome!

28 02 2009

Wow!!  This conference is awsome.  We are having a great time.  We met our friends, Ben & Tracy from Louisana. We listen to speakers, music and had group discussion strictly on rural ministry.  We are so blessed to know that back home, I have a great support staff who supported us in getting here.  Today, we will be going to our deeper learning tracks.  I will be going to do “how to flip that youth group” and Chrissy is doing “married to a youth pastor”.  So today, we will be going our seperate ways to learn all that we can to help our kids and church back home grow to love God more.  We that is all for now.  More to follow.  Keep us in prayer.
