Michael Jackson Youth Night Message

3 07 2009

I have seen over the last couple of days, a lot of people searching for a way to use the life of Michael Jackson in a youth message.  I gave this some thought over the past couple of days and this is my take on it, I hope it works for you…….

Text: Matthew 11:29-30 (New Living Translation)

Subject:  The baggage we carry

We all know all about Michael’s past and what he was accused of and we could spent all day on that, so, use what you want.  During his entire life, he was under a microscope.  As with all celebrities, they are followed everywhere the go and these days, our society lives for it.  Well over that time, he began to accumulate baggage.  This baggage followed him wherever he went.  So, over our life we have also accumulated some baggage as well.  Over time this baggage seems to weigh us down.  Picture a backpack that we would normally carry our books in.  Now each and every one of our problems and worries in life represent a brick.  Now pile those into the backpack and see if we can walk around.  I don’t think that would be possible.

Well, Jesus did not want us to carry those burdens with us.  That is why in Matthew 11:29-30, He tells us that He wants us to give Him our troubles.  He takes that backpack off of our back and puts it on His back.  That is a great feeling when we can cast our cares on Him.  It feels like a big weight has been lifted off our chest, like one of those lead weights that you wear at the dentist office.

I saw this the other day and it has rolled over, and over in my mind. “The King of Pop now stands before the King of Glory. Fame redefined.” This says so much.
